For the price, this is a good product and does the job quite wellit was a replacement for another i had for about 30 years. the quality seems good and it mounted to the same location where the last one was. the cord is long and thick. i would buy this one again if i needed another.Im really impressed at the quality of this product. Ill never understand why someone would write a bad review on this. Its very well constructed and i think its well worth the money. I'm a Very happy customerOnly issue is that if you hang it above the car’s hood the light can interfere with the car hood when it’s open.I bought the Bayco SL-840 to replace an aging drop light that used light-weight cable and a plastic cage around the light. After decades of service, the socket and switch failed, the cable no longer retracted, and the cage had melted. The Bayco was a serious step up. The cage is metal, and the switch, cable, and handle are heavy duty. This wasn't obvious until I unpacked the box. The cable reel houses 40 feet of heavier gauge cable and is about 30% larger than the old drop light. I screwed in an LED bulb, which is much more durable than an incandescent bulb. The only drawback is the plug end of the cable is too short. Another 6" would have reached the outlet where the reel hangs, like the old drop light did. Otherwise, I expect to bequeath the Bayco to future generations. Robust, it is. As for being "giftable"? For a tool head, definitely. For a girlfriend expecting perfume, not so good.I bought this for my son for Christmas this year, even though it wasn't on his list. From having one in my garage for over 30 years, and experiencing just how handy and convenient it was for me to use, I knew this would be a welcomed and unexpected gift for him. Turns out it was probably the most appreciated gift he received and he installed it the next day. He mounted it on the ceiling right above his garage door opener where this always a convenient power outlet. It was nice to get him something unexpected for once. Anytime you need a light or extension cord to work under the hood or run a vacuum to clean your car, it's right there just a pull away. It's cheap, as I knew it would be for the price. I just needed a basic light that would always be there when I needed it. The wire coil won't hold when I pull the light out. I've been clamping it to something close to where in using it so it doesn't go shooting back to the ceiling while in using it. The product says it has a 1 year warranty, but it's not returnable after 2 months. Better off to just go to Harbor Freight for a cheap light.Installed easily. Husband loves it! Feels of good quality.I actually bought two of these , one for ceiling and one for wall installation. The bracket seems pretty decent rigidity for a wall mount considering it is a just a U shaped bracket. So far the rewind mechanism seems quite solid and the round body is quite thick and heavy. I would give this a homeowner quality rating... not commercial grade or farm grade. But for most home owners this is fine. The utility light attachment is pretty much cheap plastic held together with two screws and the clamping mechanism for the cage. It is not that beefy but with modest use will be sufficient. I removed the light mechanism on one of the two units to replace it with just a connector. Just remove the two screws and the utility light comes apart ...The wiring inside is very good quality but the plug contacts are medium duty at best. The light switch is pretty cheap but it likely will take some abuse. For the price this is good quality ... it really depends on the mechanism for longevity. As others have pointed out. the cable to the plug is quite short so you will have limited choices for placement. If you are looking for commercial quality this is not the item you need but for the vast majority of us this product is more than good enough. Be aware the plastic on the utility light is cheap although the cage is very solid. Overall good quality considering the price.Handy reel, long, and love the ability to use as an extension cord as well. Popped in an LED A19 bulb and works great.Rolls up near perfect. Little finicky near the home stretch when rolling up.Works good, looks good and all hardware, less the bulb, was included. Great cord length. Recommend.Sturdy, and does the job well. I use a LED light bulb in it, and it's way more durable than the old incandescent. Also, if the bulb breaks, you just replace it instead of the whole reel (unlike the integrated LED reels). The utility light works great, so handy when working on projects, cars etc. in the garage.
